That depend whether you are a "Do things myself" kind of person, or "Do my work for me" kind of person.
Personally, I have a ritualist, but I would say it is more fun being an assassin. While that, I can make 2ndary assassin do what primary assassin do anyway, while there are things as ritualist primary that 2ndary rit simply can't do. Both of them are effective in their own way... you have to search that one out yourself. Be effective and fun is the way to go. |

This a very broad question. The crux of any answer lies in how you define "effective". Effective in PvE with PuGs, Effective in PvP, Effective in PvE with Henchies, etc.....
I personally have a Ritualist (but not an Assassin). I find the Ritualist to be a very versatile in PvE. He's a jack of all trades type of character. Typically, I end up playing him as a Healer/Protective Spirit role in PuG. A good monk and a good Restoration Ritualist can take care of the healing needs of a 8 man PuG without difficulty, thus lessening the need for a 2nd monk in the party (which is sometimes hard to find). When I run quests or missions with henchies I often switch him over to Channeling and he plays the role of the nuker wth great success. A friend as begun using his Ritualist to solo farm areas. I'm not even sure we've begun to touch on the potential builds with this profession. The buzz on Assassins seems to indicate that they are a more effective PvP profession than PvE. That's not necessarily true, but that is the general option. The role of the Assassin in PvE is currently evolving. From what I've seen and read, I think the Assasin has tons of great potential for PvE in a variety of roles. It's a very tactical character, that I think will require some practice to become effective with. |
